When a young person is eligible for Housing Benefit (HB) to pay their rent or for the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) under Universal Credit (UC) the total amount payable can include ‘eligible charges’ in addition to the actual rent.

The term, as well as carer, befriender, etc often gets used interchangeably with other terms and it can lead to some confusion. Especially as the term personal assistant is used in the commercial world to mean something like a secretary – which it very much is NOT in our world.
