Care and Housing Providers in Richmond and Wandsworth

Who by? Information from the LA
Why might it be of interest?
I am often asked for lists of care providers and housing providers who work locally. This is a list given to me by a local authority source. It is not necessarily a comprehensive list but these are providers working in LB Richmond.
If you are considering parent commissioning supported living for your young person you will need to make contact with a few of each as it will be the parents involved who agree which agencies they will work with.
You don’t have to go with local agencies or ones who already work in this area or for this local authority. However, I do think, in most cases, working with agencies who are familiar with the local area is likely to be a better option than going with an agency who are quite new to the area. It is, of course, your choice but if you go further afield ideally the agency does need to be offering something of importance to you and your young person that local agencies are not.
In my experience housing and care providers seem to work to much the same format and are geared up to working together. So who you choose to work with will probably be more down to the relationship you feel you can build with the provider rather than how the service is run – but that might not be true in all cases.
You can google and find other providers who either work in this area or nearby and who might be willing to work in this area. There is no reason why you shouldn’t approach a provider directly and some adult social care services will simply give you a list of providers and leave you to get in touch.
Providers may seem reluctant to spend too much time talking to you unless it is certain that your young person will come with funding for a place in their provision. This can only be certain once adult social care have carried out an assessment of their needs but for some of our young people their needs are of a high enough level that it is not really in doubt that they will have a suitable care package. This might be more tricky for young people where it’s hard to say what the package might look like.
The ROSE Framework
Richmond and Wandsworth have set up a framework as their approach to recommissioning accommodation and support services for adults with a learning disability and / or autism. These are the services covered:
Residential Care: long-term 24/7 care and support for adults who stay in a residential setting rather than their own home or family home
Outreach support: to help people to live independently in their own homes or with family
Supported living: when a person has their own flat or shares a house with other people and support is provided to them in their home. It can range from a few hours a week to 24/7 support depending on what support the person needs
Emergency placements: short-term support for people who need more help than usual because their circumstances have changed in an unplanned way
Richmond and Wandsworth will commission most of its accommodation via providers on this framework. However, if you are currently working with a provider (Outreach) who is not on the framework you will be able to continue to buy their services with a direct payment.
These are the current providers on the framework:
- Walsingham
- United Response
- Lifeways
- Avenues (was Metropolitan)
- Fitzroy

These 3 organisations are specialists in housing for learning disabled people and all do, or have, had houses in our local area.
When you are looking for a supported living placement the usual route is to contact your local authority as your young person needs to have a social care assessment to determine eligibility – these organisations can’t help you if your young person is not eligible for support from adult social care.
However, most organisations will be willing to talk to you about your young person’s needs and their vacancies.
The following are local housing providers but not specialists in supported living or supporting people with disabilities. In Richmond, the local authority does not own any housing stock and all housing is provided by partners.
PA Housing
RHP – Richmond Housing Partnership
L&Q Group
MTVH – Metropolitan Thames Valley
