DRE – What the Statutory Guidance Says

Created: 28/02/2025, Bright Futures @Ruils

Who by? Government website

Source: View/download article

Why might it be of interest?

There is no definitive list of allowable disability related expenses and different local authorities might automatically allow – or be more sympathetic to – some DRE than others so there will be differences depending on where you live.  The government document does not give a list but in various parts it has guidance that you might find helpful to quote to your local authority if you are experiencing difficulties.

Statutory guidance, which this is (Care Act), cannot be disregarded.  It is not law but any organisation ignoring or acting contrary to the guidance would have to have a very, very good reason for doing so.

We have further articles about DRE on the information hub and for some practical help with making your case do have a look at the Inclusion London DRE app:  https://www.inclusionlondon.org.uk/chat-bot/
