We remember Jamal Kadir

Jamal Kadir (1945-2025)

We paid our respects on Sunday 13th April to Jamal Kadir, founding member and trustee of Ruils.

Jamal was a strong, independent person who utilised Direct Payments to ensure he had choice and control over his life. Jamal was born and grew up in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. He became an activist in the Kurdish struggle and suffered terrible torture under the Ba’ath regime, which resulted in him losing his ability to walk. This experience did not embitter Jamal, he was a kind and dedicated man and worked tirelessly to promote humanitarian projects in Kurdistan as well as helping to set up Ruils.

Although he retired from Ruils in 2019, he continued to attend our events and we were delighted to be able to honour him and his work last year at our 20th anniversary celebration. A humble, honourable soul – we will miss him.  Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends.
