Befriender
Time Commitment: 1 hour per week (minimum)

About this role:
Do you want to help beat isolation in your community, and give something back for as little as one hour a week? Join our team of Volunteer Befrienders!
The key role of Volunteer Befriender is to help alleviate the sense of isolation and loneliness experienced by many people with a disability, sensory impairment or long-term health condition living in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
What we are looking for
Whilst no specific experience is required, we are looking for candidates who:
- Can demonstrate a sense of maturity as well as compassion for others
- Have good communication and listening skills with a friendly attitude
- Are aware of the principles of confidentiality
What will I be doing?
As a Volunteer Befriender you will get to know your client and spend time with them, which may include:
- Visiting the client at home
- Calling them on the phone
- Going out with them in the community
- Meeting with them in a local café or park
The role has developed since coming out of the pandemic to become more of a hybrid one, which provides flexibility for client and volunteer in engaging with each other that takes account of their needs and commitments. We will match you with a client based on their needs and your preferences.
How will Ruils support you?
We will provide you with onboarding training, safeguarding training and ongoing support throughout your time volunteering with us. This includes regular check ins over the phone and in person support sessions and trainings open to all volunteers.

- DBS Check
- Training sessions
