Democracy doesn’t end at the ballot box; it starts there
This year, eligible Londoners have taken part in two major elections – the Mayor of London and London Assembly Elections in May and the General Election in July. Though the ballots have been cast and counted, the work to strengthen our democracy is not over yet. Democracy doesn’t end at the ballot box – it relies on continuous and informed engagement, particularly as we navigate the post-election landscape.
Join us, the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Shout Out UK (SOUK) as we navigate the post-election landscape with the launch of phase 3 of the GLA’s Democratic Participation (Voter ID and voter registration) public awareness campaign!
The campaign aims to make sure that all Londoners can have their voices heard by raising awareness about their civic and democratic rights. This includes the unprecedented changes brought about by the Elections Act (2022) – especially the introduction of mandatory photo ID to vote – and addressing the equalities impact of this legislation on under-registered and under-represented Londoners. The GLA and SOUK continue to expand the pan-London coalition of civil society and educational partners that support the campaign and build on phases one and two of the GLA Voter ID Campaign towards the annual GLA London Voter Registration Week, taking place 16 – 22 September 2024.
Understanding your civic and democratic rights is crucial for active and impartial participation, ensuring your voice and your community’s voice are heard in the wider democratic system. We need your help to reach under-registered and under-represented Londoners, ensuring every voice in our vibrant city has their say!
Here’s how you can make a difference:
