Helping First Bus drivers and staff understand Disability and access needs

In 2025, we partnered with First Bus London to run an internal campaign aimed at educating drivers and staff on access barriers their passengers may face and how they can help them have better, safer journeys. Each month a different topic was be featured on their internal social media for drivers alongside print materials in the garages. They also held in person focus groups with drivers to talk about their experiences and learn from their peers.

The content and resources for the campaign have been co-produced with local Disabled people, embedding the social model of Disability and key learnings into all the materials. See an example below about the Hidden Disabilities sunflower lanyard.

We also worked with First Bus to create 6 videos highlighting what a good experience looks like on the bus when you need access adjustments. Each video features a local Disabled person telling their story and what they need from drivers.
