Mencap’s guide to wills and trusts

Why might it be of interest?

We should all have a will, along with a letter of wishes, to ensure that our estate is distributed as we would wish.  Without a will your assets will be distributed according to rules set by the government and could end up with people receiving the benefit of your estate who you wouldn’t have included, or worse, people you did want to leave something to not getting anything.

In addition, when you have a young person with a disability or otherwise vulnerable you need to protect their interests when you are gone.  A young person who can’t really manage their financial affairs would be vulnerable to scams and what you leave could affect their benefits – or stop them completely.

FYI you will need to enter your name and email to get to the download.

There’s also a FAQ section on this page and once you get to the download page there are further documents you can download about Guardianship (for an under 18) and the mental capacity act.
