Why might it be of interest?
Education supported by an EHCP is going to come to an end certainly by the time a young person turns 25 and quite likely some time before that. However, some of our young people might want to continue learning in a college setting and this is where adult education comes in.
We have a couple of local colleges that provide courses specifically for adults with additional learning needs but with the wide range of course available across our local colleges and many offered at multiple levels – from entry levels or introductory levels through GCSE and higher – there may be something that your young person is interested in and can access.
So, I have provided a list of our local colleges with website links, links to the brochure and other contact details.
Most colleges not offering specific courses for people with learning disabilities don’t mention anything about support for learners with additional learning needs so you may find that additional support has to be organised by you – the exception seems to be Hounslow which does, at least, have a page in the brochure detailing how they can support learners with additional learning needs.
Colleges may have something to offer so I would urge you to get in touch by phone or email rather than rely on the website or brochures as this sort of information always seems to be well buried and hard to find – so there may be support that I can’t find reference to on the websites or in brochures.
These are adult learning courses – they are not the same as the offerings from colleges for young people with an EHCP. Think ‘evening class for 6 weeks’ and you’re on the right lines!

They do offer a lot of language course – 10 different languages!
