Our Befriending Service for young people with SEND is running a range of accessible activities this summer, helping your young person try something new and have fun whilst doing it!

The Magic of Encanto: Paint and Create Movie Summer Group

FriendBee and BuddyUp are holding a Encanto  themed arts, crafts and movie session this summer. Come and enjoy getting creative with  Encanto themed pottery painting and craft activities, whilst we also enjoy watching the Encanto movie and a snack.

Parents/carers are welcome to stay or if your young person is comfortable, you are welcome to go and have a break, but we ask that you stay local in case we need you. We are unable to offer 1-1 support to young people during this group, but there will be 3 members of staff available to support everyone to have fun!

FriendBee Summer Allotment Sessions

Come join us at our new allotment for a morning of gardening and other activities like mindfulness colouring and preparing a fruit salad together. A carer must be present for this activity.

Our allotment is fully accessible, has toilet, lots of shade and a calming atmosphere. There is some limited parking but can also easily be accessed by public transport.

We are asking for a £5 contribution to support up to buy supplies for the sessions. Attendees can stay for as long as they are happy and comfortable for the session.

Better Gym Taster Session (for Richmond Residents only)

We have received funding to offer 6 week gym/swim memberships with Better Gym for Richmond Residents (Teddington Pool and Fitness Centre and Pools on the Park to young people aged with SEND aged 11+). These memberships will be available from September.

To help our clients decide if they would like to start a funded 6 week membership, Better Gym have kindly offered some free 30 minute taster sessions in the summer holidays.

These 30 minute sessions would take place at  Teddington Pool and Fitness Centre in the gym space 1-1 with a personal trainer, who will guide them around the equipment. Clients would need to also be accompanied by a carer. Please arrive for the session with enough time to sign the gym waiver before.

Shine SEND Disney Dance Workshop

In partnership with babyballet®, we’re hosting a Shine SEND Disney dance workshop at Whitton Community Centre, and we would love for you to join us.

This is your young person’s chance to step into a world of Disney magic, movement and music, in a relaxed environment. Whether they’re curious about dance or already love to move, this session is all about fun, connection and confidence, at their own pace.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to try Shine before deciding if the Saturday Shine SEND sessions feel right for the Autumn term.

A parent or carer will need to stay for the full session.

Activities from other Organisations

Activity Station is putting on a Relaxed Cinema Experience of Sing 2 on Monday 3rd August at 11:50am. It will be held at Olympic Studios in Barnes. The cost is £5 per individual (Carers go free) or £10 for families of any size. Booking is essential and can be done over the phone or via email: 07444881962 or activitystation@outlook.com

AFC Children’s Centres and Family Hubs Full Summer Holidays Programme Including Heathfield CC, Ham CC, The White House Family Hub (Hampton), Barnes CC, Richmond Family Hub and Outreach & Sunflower Centre

AFC Youth Centres Summer Offer – Wide range of free activities for children and young people. Centres do their best to be inclusive but please check the centre info for accessibility requirements.

Albany Outdoors – Specialist Water Sports Club for young people aged 11 to 18 with additional needs. Summer activities include dragon boating, paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking. £5 per session. Registration and pre-booking required.

Chess and Strategy Games Club – Suitable for ages 7-16, all levels and abilities welcome. 3:45-5:45 every Thursday (year-round) at Twickenham Library, Garfield Road. Free with no booking required.

Challengers Play Scheme – For disabled children ages 4-12 at Clarendon Primary in Hampton. Sessions run from 10am-3pm and cost £5 per day. Parents must first be registered with Challengers.

Challengers Youth Club – For disabled young people 13 to 18years: 10am-4pm at Whitton Youth Zone. £5 per day. Parents must first be registered with Challengers.

Fun in the Sun with Action Attainment – a summer sports programme for young people with social communication needs and their families. Activities include tennis, golf, kayaking and paddle boarding for young people 18+ yrs.

22nd July – 26th August. Family groups welcome. (Fees apply but concessions available.)

Hampton Court Magic Garden Relaxed Sessions – For neurodivergent and disabled children ages 3-16 and their families/friends. From 9:30-11:00am, 28th July, 2nd August, 19th August, 13th September. Tickets costs £1.

Kew Gardens – Children’s Garden Quiet Sessions – Gentle sessions for SEND children ages 2-12 years in the Children’s Sensory Garden. Quiet sessions are free and include entry to the Gardens.

Marble Hill Play CentresSENsational Saturday ClubFree monthly play event for children ages 0-15 with SEND and their families. August 1st and first Saturday of each month from 10-11:45am. Marble Hill Park Adventure Playground, East Twickenham. Pre-booking required.

Mencap Summer Activities/Outings (free)- For children with a learning disability age 11-17. Activities include bowling, trip to Bockett’s Farm, British Wildlife Centre, sailboat trip, companion cycling, etc. Bookings are on a first-come first-serve basis. Parents must register with Richmond Mencap.

Snakes and Ladders SEND Play SessionsDedicated play sessions for SEND children. Indoor soft-play and climbing frames, motorbikes, under-5 zones and outdoor play area. Summer dates: 15th and 29th July, 12th and 16th August, 2nd September, then every Wednesday term-time. 4:15-6:15pm at Syon Park, Brentford

£5.25 per child (including one accompanying adult). Proof of DLA is required upon entry.

 

Free or Low-cost Inclusive Activities for All

AFC Children’s Centres and Family Hubs – Free programme of activities and support for families with children. Programme schedules change termly.

Marble Hill Playcentres, Marble Hill Park, Twickenham – Range of outdoor play sessions including adventure playground for ages 5-15 and One O’clock Club for under-fives. Free to children with disability and for families on Universal Credit.

 

Free London attractions

Free entry to London Museums: The Science Museum, The V&A, Natural History Museum, Tate Britain and Tate Modern, British Museum

Special Offers for Families in Receipt of Universal Credit

Most of these offers require pre-booking and proof of UC or other specified benefits:

Kew Gardens – £1 Tickets for visitors with proof of UC. May purchase up to 4 additional guest tickets.

The Historic Royal Palaces £1 ticketsFor those in receipt of the UC (up to four people per household). Includes Hampton Court, Kensington Palace and Tower of London

Science Museum Discounts – for Wonderlab, Power Up or IMAX documentary screenings. Families on UC can book tickets at a reduced price of £5 (normally £14-£17). General museum entry is free.

Cutty Sark and Royal Observatory (Royal Museums Greenwich) – £3 tickets for those on UC, up to six people per household.

London Transport Museum – £5 Unlimited Annual Pass – Unlimited daytime entry to the Museum in Covent Garden for a whole year to those on UC.
