A note from our Chair, Jane Getley

Who by? Jane Getley, Chair of Ruils Trustees
In honour of Trustees Week, I wanted to take some time to reflect on my experience as a Ruils Chair and the benefits of joining the Ruils Board.

Being the Chair of the Ruils Board of Trustees has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. It’s not just about governance—it’s about people. It’s about listening, learning, and standing up for independence, inclusion, and choice for disabled and Deaf individuals. It’s about making sure our values—respect, dignity, and empowerment—are woven into every decision we make.
I came to this role with a passion for building strong, inclusive boards and a deep belief in the power of collaboration. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with Trustees navigating health challenges, role transitions and personal growth. I’ve seen first-hand how lived experience—whether as a service user, carer, advocate, or ally—brings richness and authenticity to our work. It’s not just welcome here—it’s essential.
At Ruils, we support people to live their best independent lives. Trustees help ensure our services empower individuals to make informed choices, access the support they need, and feel truly seen and heard. Our focus is to advocate for fairness, amplify underrepresented voices, and drive meaningful change. I’m incredibly grateful to all of the Trustees for their commitment these aims and for giving their time and skills to support Ruils.
We are recruiting for 3 new Trustees to join our Board.
This role is for someone who cares deeply about their community—someone who wants to give back with empathy, insight, and purpose. It takes time and energy, but the rewards are immense. You’ll help shape a charity that’s ethical, responsive, and rooted in lived experience.
Whether you bring professional expertise or personal insight, your perspective matters. You’ll help guide strategy, support our CEO and ensure our board reflects the diversity and strength of the people we serve.
If you’re ready to commit your time and talents to a cause that truly matters, I’d love to welcome you. Being a trustee at Ruils means leading with compassion, standing up for dignity, and helping build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
